I was not familiar with this movie, the actors, or director, but the screening was a part of a book tour stop (Karina Longworth’s SEDUCTION about Howard Hughes) so I had to go. It’s great watching old film, especially the ones you aren’t familiar with, to see a wide variety of what was being produced in classic Hollywood.

Well, I was not ready for what this journey of a film was.

The experience of watching this film was not only made better because Longworth and Richard Linklater talked afterward, but I saw the film with a dear friend and fellow cinephile, in which we both had a drastically different take away from the film.

This is exactly why I love having conversations about film. Even though I’ve known my friend for probably 25 years, our lives have take different paths, which means our interpretation of life situations is different. You get to see into the other’s world a little bit when you discuss opinions, a way to better the relationship because you see into their past.

While I saw the film more as a cautionary tale for over-ambition youth, she saw as a resilience of spirit. Where I had issues, as I do with most films from this era, about the representation of women, she saw the character break free from her chains for once.

Needless to say, this viewing was wonderful.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that I am a solid fan of the franchise, but I have seen a few.

If I try too hard to figure out the timeline, with these films and PREDATOR and BLADE RUNNER, my brain hurts, but the good thing is if you focus on this film and a prequel and stand-alone, you’ll be fine.

Scott is a good director, and I think he truly shines with these films. The aesthetic is fantastic, and everything is a specific choice is beautiful.

The thing that bothered me the most about this film was the character and drive of David. He’s from PROMETHEUS, and I have to remind myself that he spent 10 years alone after PROMETHEUS. Even with all of that, I don’t know if I like his part in the film.

It almost seems like it’s an easy fix. Do I want it more complicated? Oh, man, what am I doing with my film enjoyment.

I would not have been interesting in seeking this film out (thanks HBO) if I had not listened to the podcast HOW DID THIS GET MADE episode on this movie.

It’s your typical over the top action with little between the lines. Gerald Butler is still cheesy but a great over-the-top action star. But, the only thing that will last from this film is……

In Mother (Madre), Marta (Marta Nieto) goes about a seemingly normal day in Spain. She is dealing with her mother, as most daughters do, as she puts the house back together while her young son, Ivan, is off with his father on holiday in France. Then, her world is erupts when her son’s phone call turns into every parent’s tormented fears come true, a lost child.

The tension builds throughout the narrative once you become aware of what is at stake. What helps create this is the fact that you are experience real time emotions along with Marta.

This means the minutes that pass on screen pass off screen at the same rate, as if you are in the apartment with her. Sorogoyen carefully crafted this mimicry, and in his eyes was a gift that was born during production.

For this version, director Otto Bathurst and screenwriters Ben Chanler and David James Kelly, focused their Robin Hood on motivation and backstory. The heart of the story is what we hold dear, Lord Loxley (Egerton) who after his time at war during the Crusades steals from the rich and gives to the poor. We witness his partnership with a Moor (Jaime Foxx) who helps him overthrown the power of the evil Sheriff of Nottingham (Mendelsohn). Without a strong foundation, though, the heart of the historic story doesn’t have a leg to stand on. In Robin Hood, the foundation is the horrendous experience of war Loxley endured that influenced the thief he became.

This might be the first Robin Hood adaptation that actually explores his time at war. The audience is granted a chance to see what Loxley the Soldier went through. We get to connect to his vulnerability and heartache as he has to transverse the brutality of the crusades. Yet, he’s not the only person we gain a further understanding of, the Moor. Before now, we just knew they met up during the war, even though the exact way was always unclear. The Moor, or in this version Little John (which was a cleaver way to blend characters) meets Loxley in battle. Time is devoted to their connected, yet different, experiences and explains their shared motivation, which lasts the whole film.

What pushes Robin Hood forward is a strong story, and a solid motivation helps keep the audience entertained because there is weight behind it. This is where the film, for me, was at it strongest. The motivation, the story, felt real, as if everything in this world rested on it’s shoulders. The downside, however, is that if you have a strong motivation, a strong protagonist, the success of the film will in turn rest on the power of the antagonist. While Mendelsohn is a significant foe, the Sheriff’s backstory was lacking and unbalanced in its weight. At times the fuel for his hatred fire was relevant, a force to be reckoned. Yet, the majority of the time it was hard to find a connection between the accelerant and the target of his injustice. The lackluster character is saved by Mendelsohn’s villainous ways, but would fall apart otherwise

We all know that I’m a huge Harry Potter fan, and I very much live for these movies. However, at one viewing, this isn’t the strongest film in the series or what it could have been.

It’s hard not to get into troubled water when you bring in cannon from other timelines, and I think there was several of those elements in this film. There is one major plot point that I still don’t know how I feel about it. It could be super annoying if it means she rewrote the cannon she already set up, or very interesting if it is something other than what we think.

Which means, for me at one viewing (yes, it’s important to mention one viewing) this is not a standalone film like the first one. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it would be better if it could be.

I love this series, these sequels and the way they evolved throughout the years.

The backstory behind the production of each one is unique. Each one took the best parts of the previous one and expanded on it for the generation in which it was made. They are exactly the same, but they are incredibly unique.

I think they get better and better each time out, and while I haven’t seen the newest 2018 version yet, I have no doubt it will be amazing. Besides, the main singers (in the music versions) have similar voices, it feels like they are meant to be cast in these films.

I could watch each of these again and again. I’m so glad I did this, watching them in order.

In my mind, this movie was the perfect storm of action films. It is a MCU story, which means the story and content are going to be well-rounded and much more than just an action film. It also starts Tom Hardy, who is my favorite actor. And I was not disappointed.

The great thing about this film is that it a freestanding film. It is connected to the MCU, how can it not be when it’s such an iconic Spiderman villain. However, because of the business aspect we will never understand, it isn’t directly effected by anything that is happening in the MCU that we know of (ie Thanos and all that timeline stuff). Yet, if they wanted to, it would be easy to connect it back to the universe. It’s complicated and above my pay-grade, but it works.

Aside from the grand scheme of things, the story is great. It flows and evolves with new details. The characters are motivational and the progression feels true to their traits and not just for the sake of the film. Above all, for me, the success of this film is because of Hardy.

This is probably the first time I’ve seen him as a sincere and thoughtful person. He isn’t overly aggressive or intimidating, he seeks the truth because he has a heart. Maybe this is the closest to his actual person than we’ve seen, but it’s a definite shift than his other films. It’s refreshing and adds another unexpected level to the success of the film. I truly believe that the film would not be as strong if he wasn’t in in.

So, while I may not be fully versed in the world of comic books, this film does a pretty damn good job on the “surface” to be one of my favorites this year.

Again, one random viewing at the perfect time of an HBO channel and was able to watch a movie I have never seen.

Not only was I not aware of this film, but I was not aware of this very interesting point in history.

These types of movies are a window into the past, and when we watch them through modern eyes it brings up interesting feelings. As modern and spoiled we are when it comes to human rights, at times it’s hard watching a story when it exposes societies past inequality. What’s even more amazing is when you realize that a lot of these human rights inequality wasn’t too far in the past.

No matter what we feel based on the society we grew up in and what we agree with, this film was great.

I had no idea what to expect with this movie except I was interested in the film because of Dinklage, I didn’t even know who Herve was.

I love film history and gossip, and this movie was an interesting look at not only a star’s life, but how messed up the industry can be at times. It’s a harsh business that will spit you out, no matter what your relationship with it is.

Dinklage is amazing, as always, and at time you forget you are watching him and lose ourself in the film. Man, I do love HBO movies.

I love this movie so much. I wasn’t expecting to get as emotional as I did while watching it, but it was so beautiful it made me happy.

I wish there were more of these inspirational movies about inclusion in past generations. Can you image how many people would have benefitted from this story? We may not be able to go back in time, but we can make sure the generations of the future feel welcomed and loved.

It’s just a beautiful story, everything about it. It makes me happy.

This movie has been on my list for a while strictly because it stars one of my Hollywood crushes. I knew it wasn’t the ‘greatest’ film, but it was definitely interesting.

Basically, to me, this was just a male version of THE CRAFT, which is a kickass film, but this film failed to be. It’s a bit frustrating, actually, because it could have been.

If you got past the sometimes ridiculous dialogue and amplified acting moments, the backbone was pretty strong. The idea that a lineage of warlocks from one of the founding Wiccan families in the states is interesting. The villain is strong too, the last seat thought to be lost is fighting for his place in the coven. It’s all there……

Unfortunately, it did not get even close. There were too many elements of exposing these good looking boys in shirtless scenes. Maybe that was entirely the point (I did mention I watched it for my crush), but it was frustrating because I saw a powerful story underneath the fluff. Then again, who knows what the original script was like, it is a Renny Harlin film after all.

I’m not normally a film fan of Spike Lee. While I agree with his perceptions of the world, I don’t necessarily agree in the harshness that it’s represented. I’ve found in the past that I felt that it was too much thrown in my face. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always appreciated his filmmaking talent and the voice he’s found within himself.

After seeing BLACKKLANSMAN, I wonder if I was viewing his films as a naive citizen. I was lucky enough to grow up in an open and respectful area. I never personally saw hardcore racism, so seeing it so harshly on screen was uncomfortable. I guess, I was in denial. I am interested to go back and watch the films I was turned off by in Lee’s filmography to see if I see them through a different lens since we live in a harsh time.

BLACKKLANSMAN, though, was a really great movie. By using a “period piece” to show the horrors of racism and the power in fight, the audience was able to make the connections to our current time and the horrors we are facing now. To make that point bold, Lee ended the film with the events at Charlottesville in 2016. It’s not just some made up threat from 40 years ago, it’s a real fear we all are facing.

The power of this movie was in the reality of the story in our lives and how it hasn’t changed in 40 years. If you don’t leave the film feeling pissed and have a call to action, I’m not sure you’re viewing it right.

With everything going on, I’m glad there are filmmakers like Spike Lee around to help us understand what is going on and what we need to do.

Oh man, there were so many feels when it came to this movie.

So many issues they addressed, and addressed well, without having them shoved down your throat.

There were stereotypes they flipped on their head to create a new way of thinking and made things easier to understand for some.

It’s just an amazing movie, and I can’t wait to have you read the article I’m working on.

I love Katharine Hepburn. There is so much about who she was that I want to become. Her strength, her resilience, her confidence.

I am making my way through her films, and as you’d expect, they are all amazing.

However, as of now, PAT AND MIKE is my favorite.
I’m sure a lot of it has to do with the fact that it’s with Spencer Tracy, they are so great together. It’s hard denying their chemistry when you see them together. It makes their love story that much better, and yet that much more tragic as well.

What I love is that Katharine was always the strong independent woman she was in real life in her films. For the time, it was unusual.

Sure, you could say that in this film she was destroyed, so to speak, but a man, and then found another one, but it’s not that simple. For me, I see her as strong. Yet, I do recognize the connection and need for there to be a man in her life (it’s the era), but for all the men in her films that she ends up with, they are always her equal. She becomes a better woman because of her partner, and vice versa.

That is the major element of this film, and I love it. I love Hepburn-Tracy.

This was a beautiful movie. The subject matter that it dealt with was hard and emotional, but it handled it well.

I’ve watched a lot of shorts lately, and I still can’t believe how amazing these director-writers are. The way they are able to capture hard situations in such depth in a short of amount of time.

I’m in the process of writing an interview with the director-writer, so I’ll let my love end here.

Well, the stories were right, S2 was so much better than S1.

Once again the villain has dimensions and it’s a much better story.
Not on that, but the characters have dimensions, too. There is more to them than the fighting and the glowing fist.

Marvel is just good at that, they set it up from the very beginning and has continued strong. Like with JACK RYAN, having a show like this on a streaming network is the best thing for fans.

This isn’t your normal movie with supers type of story.

There are so many great elements to this film, but because I’m going to write about it soon, I’ll leave it at that.

I will say this. It is a great movie and I really enjoyed it.

The first time I saw PITCH PERFECT was with my brilliant niece, and because of that this series has a special place in my heart.

As much as I love these girls, this was not a strong movie.

I love them together, but this story wasn’t strong and felt forced. Let’s hope that if they do make another one, it’s a way better story.

This was another series that I remember growing up with. “Clear and Present Danger” and “Patriot Games” were movies that I loved, even if I didn’t fully understand what was going on.

This reboot is the perfect example of what non-cable networks are allowed to do. It’s true that networks shows are similar, like 24, but there is something about JACK RYAN that opened to door to something unique.

For one, the villain wasn’t one dimensional. Just because he was Middle Eastern doesn’t mean that his thought process for his actions were different than ours. For that, the complicated villain, the show was great. So tense, So interesting. I can’t wait for season 2.

I was So Excite for this movie! I grew up on the original, and there are some very significant memories I have from my youth that revolve around this movie.

However, it wasn’t what I hoped it would be. I might have caused that on my own with being so excited about it, but it was hard!

The dialogue was okay, wasn’t his best. It was a bit chessy, which was great. I loved how badass Olivia Munn was, she took care of business without having a man do it for her.

But, the ultimate thing about this movie, the whole reason I will ever see it again is because of my buddy. I feel so special, I know the Predator.

Yeah, I know, I’m not a fan of romantic comedy—cute movies. But, when your girl tells you that you should it, you listen. On a lazy, TV and couch kind of day, I put it on and feel in love.

First off, even though we shouldn’t have to mention it I love that we are noticing it, but I love the diversity. I was not aware of the book, but apparently it’s the same as in the book. Which, is amazing that they kept it that way. It didn’t change the fact that she was Asian, it didn’t make it weird that her boys were Anglo….it changed nothing. (steps down off soapbox)

It was just cute. It wasn’t in your face, and allowed the actors to play the characters and have fun. It was able to capture the giddiness of young love.

We’ve been exposed to stories like these before, the plot in and of itself is not distinctive, but what makes this film stand out is the way the story is presented. From the moment the film starts, the audience is exposed to a new visual experience. The audience is introduced to the Kim family through their digital imprint, pretty much from Margot’s birth, by photos and other online materials. It not only serves the purpose of an introduction to the characters and their lives up until now, but it’s a way to ease the audience into the unique visual storytelling tools Chaganty employs. 

The way the history of this family unfolds through ‘show don’t tell’ is brilliant, one truly does allow their personality to show through their computer personalization. This history also plays a large role in the relationship between David and Margot, and within the first few moments of the film we already feel connected to the characters. This instantly becomes more than a missing persons case, it’s a missing family friend.

Like the “hand-held” camera craze of the previous decade, visuals through laptop cameras seems to be the next new trend. What separates Searching from the other films in this sub-genre is that the story and cinematography work well together. The tension of a missing person’s case mixed with the investigation through the computer works perfectly together because of the way the information is presented. Even though the information is presented in a specific way, if you pay attention to the peripheral elements of her life online you become aware of Margot’s true life which is different then the life her father thinks she has. The audience is then gifted with the real time reaction of David as he becomes aware of his daughter’s secret life, and each click on the mouse mimics the ticking clock of the time Margot’s been gone. The tension is also used well in the terms of stagnancy of being stuck at home. David isn’t out hitting the pavement in his search, and because of that the stir crazy sensation of being at home quickly turns into tension.

I remember when this movie came out, the quirky foreign film that was being released in the states. This was just before my attraction to foreign films, and I missed it. If I’m not mistaken, I didn’t want to see it cause it sounded boring.

Ha, how times have changed. I loved this film. It was cute and well done in every aspect. There was a lot going on, many different storylines woven around the main one, but I never felt cheated.

The biggest reason why I am so attracted to foreign films is their expression of story. It isn’t always about the spectacle, it’s about the characters and how they interact with each other and the world. More than once I have left the film with a wholeness in my heart. That’s wonderful.

It was a fun movie, and I’m looking forward to chatting with director Alejandro Montoya Marin about his experiences participating in El Rey’s show REBEL WITOUT A CREW.

The film was fun, and funny, and held a great indie Austin vibe.

For a film fan like myself, I was not aware of this film until it’s re-release, which is surprising considering the decorated director and extraordinary cast. There was a moment of relish in realizing the gold mine of a journey I was about to embark on with these talents, but that soon faded into utter transfixation with the story. Most of the cast is still going strong in current films, with some being known for particular characters, but they didn’t bring that baggage with them for this film. 

It’s an interesting concept, especially when you consider Tucker himself, the iconic Jeff Bridges. It’s true that this film was made well before The Dude was engrained in our psyche, but we are so connected to The Dude, that it’s hard to see Bridge’s role, old or new, as anything but. In revisiting an older film of his, we are able to watch his talent shine, embrace a new, well-rounded character and realize just how wonderful Bridges is as an actor. The audience can become engrossed in the journey the movie and characters make without visions of other films flashing before our eyes.

This whole movie seems to break type for all those involved, and it’s great to be a part of. As mentioned before, the majority of the names that flashed on screen in the beginning are ones the audience is familiar with, maybe even beloved, but this film is not typical of the work we are used to. Engaging in the period piece atmosphere of the 1940s, when the film is set, a hopefulness hovers the story.

Oh man, this movie is probably more relevant now than it has been before. I remember reading it years ago, and fell in love with it then, but I never imagined what I would feel by seeing a modern remake.

The cast is magnificent, and to be fair I’m a huge fan of MBJ and Michael Shannon so this was a magical pairing.

It has been a while since I’ve read it, so I can’t be completely truthful in my comparisons of the book and film, but what I remember it’s pretty accurate. As accurate as it can get when its a 21 century modernization.

Either way, it’s a GREAT movie and one we need to focus on. The theme and the underlining tone is a lesson we need to learn.

Any film with this incredibly talented and handsome man is bound to be amazing.

This has always been one of the classics I should have seen, and I’m disappointed in myself it took me this long. It don’t know what I expected it to be, but it is not what I thought it was going to be. This ended up being a good thing. I didn’t have any preconceived notion as to what the film was about, and that was almost better than what it could have been.

I have the same affection for this film as I do for CASABLANCA. The best love stories aren’t about getting together, but it’s about what you’re willing to sacrifice for the other person.

Thankfully this one ends happy. I would have been very upset if it didn’t.

Most of the time, when it comes to the period Academy type pictures you know what to expect with the film. Not that this wasn’t of that caliber or deserved all of the praise, but there was still a notion of unexpected joy.

Gary Oldman was fantastic. Plain and simple. He is always a great actor, he’s one of my favorites, but the way he shined in this one was unlike what I’ve seen before. He embodied Churchill, but brought a fullness to him that was unknown to the younger generation. It was a great history lesson. Especially when you pair it in the same year that DUNKIRK came out.

Should I even mention Joe Wright? He’s one of my favorite directors, and i LOVE the way he uses sound, so this whole paragraph will be me just loving on his talent and craft.

It’s a great film.

I love Tom Cruise action films. I LOVE Sofia Boutella. I love Egyptian mythology.

Even with all of that, I did not like this movie very much. I mean, it was a Tom Cruise action with mythology in it, but it didn’t hold up to the original. Then again, we already knew that.

I’m fascinated by the royal family, all the history and the empires and the lineage, however, I didn’t rush out to see this because it didn’t really appeal to me. I don’t know if it’s a theater movie, but I do wish I would have made an effort to see it, it was beautiful.

This story was hidden for so long, and I’m glad it has found it’s way into the light. It’s a wonderful story about friendship, across all boundaries, and finding a deep connection with those around us. It’s sad to see how the relationship was treated after her death, you really do end up feeling for what Victoria must have been dealing with after her Prince Albert’s death and the disrespect from her family due to her sadness.

I believe it’s one of these movies that I’ll need to watch again, just because it’s wonderful.

Also, almost didn’t recognize Eddie Izzard!

The way that you feel after the movie ends is not how you feel going into it. It’s a beautiful film that is unexpected. It’s classified as a “musical” but I don’t think that does it justice, it’s a brilliant blend of drama and music, without being dumped in a genre that is very unique on it’s own.

There is a review that will explain more, but I highly recommend this film.

I wasn’t too excited about this film, not that I didn’t like the idea about it being all women, but that it was another remake (so to speak) of the franchise. I’m a writer, I want original ideas with female leads.

With that said, I loved this film. True, there were a few moments I was annoyed, I wish it wouldn’t have been too on the nose about the connection to the original remake, storyline that it, but it didn’t ruin the film.

What I loved most, actually, was that all the ladies were able to use their real voice. Even if it wasn’t exactly their voice, they represented who they are as women, not being someone else. Mainly, pointing out that they are not American actresses, and not only is that okay but that they can be in a blockbuster with an accent!

Maybe it’s because I’m such a Marvel snob, but the DC movies aren’t great to me. They are good at doing scenes well, but they can never seem to bring them together to form a good movie.

Flash was cool, I like this version (even if the TV is my favorite). Aquaman was fun, which he is a “fun” character, less serious really. But I’m really tired of the less than perfect representation of Wonder Woman in the mash-up movies. She’s a great character, he stand-alone was awesome, why can’t that continue in the other films?

I’ll still see them, eventually, and I hope they get better.

There are actors that are an audience draw, and for me that’s Washington. He puts his soul into his work, captivating the audience every moment he’s on screen. He’s never been one to soak up the limelight, nor does he seem to be strategic about his film roles, he’s just an actor. I mention this because in others hands, McCall could be a character that is a one-note action badass. However, the vast talents that Washington posses as an actor blends together in Equalizer 2 and allows for not only the strength but the vulnerability of the character to be displayed in this action film. 

One of the most impactful scenes involves no action at all, just an emotional conversation between McCall and his young neighbor Miles (Ashton Sanders). It’s not the topic that’s discussed that’s important, it’s the message that becomes powerful. The passion that McCall has for his fellow humans is centered on his ability to see, and root for, their full potential. We all seek for those supporters that help us reach our dreams, and unfortunately some don’t have this available to them. What we do have is McCall, and this 10 or so minute scene transcends the screen to penetrate through our tough exteriors to find our humanity. We find role models in all sorts of arenas, Equalizer 2 happens to be one of the most recent.

Washington has done many films that showcase his abilities, but it’s when he finds a director he vibes well with that he truly shines. In the past it was Tony Scott, and those films will be a great example of the legacy Scott leaves behind, but Washington’s new chapter, which started with Training Day, is with Antoine Fuqua. It’s no secret that Equalizer 2 is the first sequel in Washington’s career, and I believe the connection that he shares with Fuqua is why this film stands above a typical sequel.

It was a fun movie. I watched it for Gabriel Macht, and was impressed by him. I’m interested in seeing him in more roles, not that I want SUITS to end, I love that show.

I mean, sure, the film is pretty basic and formulaic, but it’s a fun watch. Not nearly as soon as the original (sorry).

This show is amazing. What Netflix is able to do with these Marvel characters blows my mind every time, every season.

It did take me a few episodes until I really got into the season, which is normal when you’re coming back after a stellar first season/product, but once it gets going, it Gets Going!

There are a few moments that are a bit uncomfortable, in regards to the relationship between Shades and Mariah, but it wasn’t something that ruined the show for me.

There is a lot to unpack with this show, and I’m super excited for S3.
Intensity, for sure.

This was NOT the film I thought it was.

Again, to be honest, I watched this mainly to see Lee Pace in a film, especially one with Naomi Watts, but dude, not a film to watch when you’re already a bit emotional.

It was beautiful, and well done, but it’s emotional. Lots of different emotions, all at once, including tears.

Still worth watching, just be prepared with tissues.

Oh man, this is an Action Movie.

I have loved this series from the beginning. There are a few that aren’t that great, but they are all pretty consistent. At this point, though, they have mastered the blending of action sequences with story. It’s more action, for sure, but it’s done right and well and it fits well into the plot.

I do agree that there should be a conversation about Cruise doing his own stunts and what he’s taking away from the stunt crew, but in a way it’s bringing awareness to the cause. The stunt teams in this film are badass, and incredibly impressive. They are pushing the button on what can be done in films, but they are doing it with practical effects, or it seems like it, and it’s the best part of the film.

The story is great as well. I love how they always have a slight-of-hand aspect of the story. It’s great they have continued to do that from the beginning, it connects the films, making it a true franchise.

I also have to admit, this film makes Rogue Nation a better film. I didn’t like that one too much because I feel that when they give Ethan Hunt a love interest (outside of his “wife”), it’s not as great. Hunt is the leader of a team, the watchful eye of the IMF team, and when his focus is split between them and a girl, it takes something away. However, the situation behind the Isla Faust character fits once you really know what’s going on. It could also be that I wasn’t open enough the first time watching Rogue Nation, so it could entirely be my fault.

I am still a fan of Cruise being an action film, even with the debate. He’s a good actor, he delivers and is the leader we need for these films. He also is really great about sharing the scene with his fellow actors. He doesn’t over-shadow, and I dare say he brings others up to his level. It’s great to see him collaborate with actors. Speaking of actors, I do love me some Henry Cavill, action star!

This series has been around for over 20 years, and I won’t be mad if they continue.

I’m such a Marvel girl, these movies are so good. I love how each one of these films can stand on their own, yet they also fit with the universe and with each other perfectly.

I remember when people were unsure about Paul Rudd being a superhero, but he’s turned out to be great. Granted, it’s the type of film/character he’s playing, but he’s been casting brilliantly. Give it up to Marvel casting, too, great.

The action sequences were cool, too. And yes, it’s a summer blockbuster/superhero film, but these scenes aren’t over done. Watching these films, with these SFX, it makes you really made when you see a recent movie with horrible ones.

The Ghost character, OMG, amazing. And it’s a woman. while they still need to explore more LEAD female character films, we’re getting somewhere. Even if females are second characters, they are individuals and strong, and can stand their own among the main men in the film. Let’s open Captain Marvel opens the door, busts the door wide open for a new generation of strong LEAD female characters.

Anyways, I loved this movie, loved the post-credit scene, and can’t wait to see it again.

This was a great random find. I wasn’t aware of this film, which really isn’t saying much, but with a cast like this it was worth watching. I actually think it’s one that needs another viewing, there’s more to it then what you think.

At first, I thought it was going to be about cheating relationships, but then in moved to the last vignette, and it sort of changes the other two. That’s why I think I need to watch it again. It might be one of those films where it’s actually about women’s strength and not man focused as some 60s movies tend to be.

It was a good film, though. This is why I love this challenge. I watch so many movies I probably would normally, and I’m becoming a better film watcher because of it.

It’s a Dax Shepard film, that’s for sure. It’s that type of comedy. It’s not my favorite, but it wasn’t horrible. Michael Pena is also awesome, so there’s that.

Pena is one of those actors that does an amazing job playing well with others. He takes what his costars give him and he matches their intensity/comedy/whatever is needed. He’s really an underrated actor, in my opinion.

So, yeah, this was a movie. I don’t know what I expected, especially considering the first one. In my opinion, it’s not one of the better graphic novel remakes, but I also don’t know anything about this story.

Okay, fine, to be completely honest, I just watch it for Idris Elba. Even he didn’t save the film for me.

I love Anna Kendrick, anything she does is wonderful.

This was quirky and cute, deep and superficial, it was fun and emotional. It was everything, all at once, and I enjoyed it all.

I don’t remember hearing about this movie, especially since Demian Bichir was nominated for an Oscar. Thank you cable movie channels, because this movie was wonderful.

While I’m not familiar with the Mex-Americans in LA/Cali, I’m familiar with the struggle. The struggle of pushing forward to a better life, but being held back by what other see you as: you want the education but people only see gangsters.

This film does a good job in showing the struggles, but also showing the responsibilities of the parties, they know what they are doing and risking, and the know what it will do to the families. You make sacrifices or you steer those away, but you take ownership of your choices.

What is there to say about this film that hasn’t already been said? It’s beautiful, it’s very truly a Nolan film, and the heart is on it’s sleeve.

I loved how it was similar to Memento, the structure was sequential throughout each POV, but those weren’t in line with each other. There was a beauty in that. Especially in a film subject like this. They all were a part of the same thing, dealing with the same war, yet they were dealing with elements outside of each other, they were alone in their situations.

It was raw, and when raw is done right, it’s beautiful.

I loved the first one. I was taken by surprise and enjoyed every aspect of the original film. I loved how they played with the casting of Firth, and Mark Strong is always good. I really became a fan of Matthew Vaughn, really solidified my appreciation.

I was very excited about the sequel. True, I don’t think there needed to be one, but I was okay with it. There was something unique about this film and I wanted to see it again.

There are aspects about the film that I enjoyed, parts that are definitely Vaughn which I love, but overall I was not impressed.

It tried too hard. It was trying to outdo the first, when in reality staying the same, which was already at a high level, would have been best. It seems to have fallen into the the sophomore slump. It didn’t enhance the story or the first one, if anything it took it a step back.

I don’t know. Maybe I need to see it again, but I feel it tried too hard. It makes me a little sad, but at least I have the first one.

If this movie doesn’t remind you of “3 O’Clock High” we can’t be friends.

I work in a school district, and while I’m not a teacher, the mood and frustration of these teachers spoke to me on a personal level.

This movie was kind of stupid, a whole lot of fun, and exactly what you need when your practicing self-care on a stressful night.

I would totally watch this again.

I enjoyed the first movie intensely, and maybe it’s because I’m close to the situation (family in South Texas), but they do such a great job of showing the brutal truth without making a political statement.

It’s incredibly difficult to do in this type of movie, but I believe they do. This movie is the same, and while there are jabs for either side, it’s done in a way that shows how f-ed up and complicated things can be.

I don’t remember really paying attention to Brolin before “No Country for Old Men,” but damn! Every role since (pretty much) has been impressive. I guess every actor needs their breakout, no matter when it comes in their career, where they can shine in their true talent. If it wasn’t for NCFOM, I don’t know if he’d be able to do the diversity he has done, including this movie.

When you pair him with Del Toro, who is equally vulnerable and terrifying, it’s magic. I’m blown away by everything I’ve seen of BDT, his intensity shines, but in this one there is such vulnerability, his heart explains everything.

I didn’t think they needed to be a 2nd, but I’m happy it’s a trilogy.

This movie is intense. There are a lot of things that mess with perception, which I love, but they also don’t shy away from the situation at hand.

This film was very beautiful, and I find myself at a loss for words. They way it expressed the difference between culture, and our established perceptions, were done in a beautiful way. The balance of brutality and calmness created an organic and powerful film. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, and please feel free to include anything else you would like me to know, important for the audience to be aware of.

Oh man, this movie. I knew it was going to be a tear jerker, but I was not ready for this.

I loved the message, I loved how they addressed the complicated emotions that are always tied to loved ones being sick and fighting horrible diseases. It’s something that I relate to, and one of the things that is the hardest to let go of, guilt of wanting the pain to stop even if it means our loved ones leaves us.

It’s amazing to know that Lewis MacDougall was basically in nothing before this. He was utterly fantastic. The complicated tones and polarizing emotions was impressive and heartbreaking. I will be paying attention to him from now on because if this is the beginning, his future is going to be breathtaking.

The artistry in this movie, the gorgeous SFX/Drawing was fascinating. It looked so real, it’s amazing to know where our SFX are at this point. The art looked like the 3 Brother’s story in HP7, which was one of the best parts of that movie. I really hope they use this technique more in films to come, it’s comforting. That might be because we know it’s art, but it blends perfectly with reality.

Well, Tom Cruise is consistent. His movies will always be well made and action filed. He’s also still a pretty good actor, so these movies will always be fun to watch.

However, there were times during this movie that things seemed all over the place. Maybe I wasn’t ready for what it was, but the jumping around with the stylized camera work and look made things a little difficult to pay attention to.

It’s a “SMDH” moment when you realize what this movie exactly means to our history and the fact that this really happened. The things our county finds themselves in.

Wow, I don’t even know what to think about this movie. The description sounded awesome, and the cast is amazing, but I was not ready for what this film is.

It came out when psychic was growing as a thing, and came after Carrie (who Brian De Palma also directed), but this is definitely not. Unless you want to make sure people realize that you don’t mess with mediums.

It was kind of all over the place, but it was an interesting ride. The named actors/crew involved in this movie was worth watching it.

The film opens on a captivating woman, she waits, but we do not know what for. As disappointment and longing fill her eyes, the expected partner finally arrives. Galia Barkol opens her feature debut pulling no punches on what its like to be lost in the middle of life.

MIA is a story about a young immigrant woman who has escaped to New York following a dance career ending injury. Mia, played by Barkola herself, navigates the mysterious town as she tries to find herself as her future is now up for grabs. She flirts with another art form, origami, and tries to form an unlikely friendship with the man whose apartment she is subleasing, but she never seems to capture the fulfillment her soul is in desperate need of.

MIA is intriguing, even if at times you aren’t sure what is going on. The character and the situation, while unique to Mia, are universally felt. There are moments of confusion, trying to figure out where the placement of these situations fit into the grand scheme of things. Yet, if you stop trying to place the film in a restrictive formula, you realize that the film flows freely like life.

I have to admit, I wasn’t keen on rushing out to see this movie, to me the only Solo is Ford.

However, Alder Ehrenreich did a pretty good job. It was great to see the origin of the characters, his quirks, his friends, and were able to get to know him a little more.

That’s why these “A Star Wars Story” films are fun. We all love the cannon, and while it might not explain everything, or connect to other properties (Clone Wars and Rebels) it’s a way for the less versed to be connected to characters and worlds we love. I think this was done well. While it might have been ‘too Howard' (aka well-known style), I was happy with it.

The best part, though, hands down, forever and always, was Donald Glover. Please movie gods let there be a standalone Lando film!

In its truest form avant-garde consist of some of the most artistic films on record. These films are not bound by convention, and in turn are free to express their emotions in the abstract ways they deserve. The Entitlement is no exception, creating an environment for free-flowing ideas and relationships grow and change as they seem fit. Not a lot is explained, as nothing needs to be, and the audience is allowed to fill in the blanks where they like. A journey is beginning, and the audience wants full admission even if the adventure isn’t fully described.

This movie is beautiful. The film follows members of the all-woman National Cycling Team in Kabul Afghanistan. As one can imagine, it doesn’t shy away from the hardships these women face, especially as the country changes throughout the making of the film, but the resilience of the riders never falters.

Beyond perceptions, this film is about strength. These riders are constantly surrounded by fear because the simple act of women on bicycles threatens others’ beliefs. Yet, each day the National Cycling Team of Afghanistan work to help progress a resistant country into a world of equality. It’s not easy for them, and Afghan Cycles addresses this, both in Kabul and in Bamiyan, but their passion lives on. In the simplest term, it is inspirational. They are not letting outside forces hold them back, and because of that have become some of the strongest women I have ever seen.

Cats are adorable (cat person over here), but capturing them in animation…love it. It’s cool animation and a whimsical story. It was a cute short.

It’s a storybook come to life, and it’s just as lively and bold in person as it is on the page.

This is a wonderful example of how important arts education is in school. We truly will never know the impact creativity has on our lives until its snatched away. It is a heartbreaking film, but beautiful all the same.

This MF movie.

Jennifer Lawrence is a wonderful actress. She brings something different to every role she’s been in, and it’s even more magical when she works with directors she knows like Francis Lawrence. You can tell there were moments that brought her out of her comfort zone, and she’s used that to bring a realness to the character.

This film is tense, and even if it might be a little long, it’s an interesting ride. Not only is Lawrence brilliant, but so is Joel Edgerton, and when they are together there is a give-and-take present that helps move the story along.

I do feel this movie should have received more praise, for it was a good thriller.

I loved the book JUMANJI when I was little, and really enjoyed the first movie. I wasn’t too thrilled in the idea of a remake, even if my favorites (Johnson and Gillan) were in it. Granted, I knew I was going to see it because of those two, but I wasn’t expecting that this movie would blow everything I thought I knew out of the water.

The source material is based on a board game, and in the 21st century, that is a relic. I loved how they updated the premise, and they didn’t any of the brilliance of the original story in the process. The little details they added, not only honoring the original game, but elements of video games were fun.

I mean, this was just a fun, laugh out loud movie that I will gladly see again.

Dear Dictator is not your typical teen comedy, and deserves proper attention as a great film. Under the surface there are elements of finding the truth within yourself and not being afraid to express that, but also a healthy dose of comedic charade. It’s not hard to have fun with this film, and in our current state they are a blessing. 

One of the best surprises is how wonderful Caine is in this film. Most film goers can list off a handful of his films within seconds, with each one consisting of a smooth and debonair character. Even as deplorable dictator, Caine finds a way to be awkward and oblivious in Dear Dictator. A tyrannical character like this not only adds humor but also a new dimension to the film, as well as Caine himself. It’s an interesting take on a character like this, yet it doesn’t make what he’s doing in his home country any less horrible. It’s a nice balance, one that you can sense Addario and Syracuse spent respectful time on to get right.

This movie is everything. I heard how amazing it was from the internet and family, but I was not ready for how much it truly was.

There is so many elements of this film that are beyond cinematic. The way he plays with the sense, not only audio but sight. It’s one of those film that you can’t stop thinking about. For days i kept thinking about the film, not only the heartbreakingly beautiful plot but the tension.

Oh, the tension. So well done. It’s not horror, but it is. It’s a new horror, praying on our deepest fears and forcing us to confront them. Vulnerability at it’s height, there are many layers to this story that you can spend an entire class unfolding.

I hope Krasinski continues to direct, and I can’t wait to see what he does in the next one.

Right from the beginning, Shigeno and Tomita unfold the emotional connect ramen has on both chef and patron. It’s hard not to draw similarities to both chicken soup and the film Like Water for Chocolate, and the film becomes much less of a regional documentary than a cultural connectivity we have with tradition. The tone is secured by the captivating line, “If the person making the ramen is happy, the end result will be happiness.”

It goes beyond the chef, though, even if your respect for Tomita and his accomplishments in the food genre continue to grow throughout the film. The variety of ramen dishes is extensive, but it’s always honorable and representative of the chef behind the recipes. It’s fascinating to witness, but what blew me away more was the modest price Tomita charges. It truly proves that you are engaging an audience to travel down a food journey with the outcome being joy, price doesn’t have to be extravagant. This also goes for the chefs who want to keep their recipes secret, which Tomita points out; the ones that hide ingredients are nothing fancy, and the ones that are fancy have nothing to hide.

The world of ramen isn’t only broken down in the dish itself in Ramen Heads, but in every detail that surrounds it. Ramen isn’t a for-the-masses dish, it’s about the individual and the restaurant area that reflects that. With so much detail going into the meal, each one is different, prepared for the person at that time, which explains why these shops are small and restrictive. This opened my eyes to the Austin shop, and my snobbiness melted away to be replaced by respect. A traditional ramen place doesn’t focus on the scratch portion of the meal, but the unique experience available.

This film was way overdue to be added to the list. 

First off, Sam Rockwell is amazing. He's always been amazing, bringing a freedom to complicated characters in everything that he does. However, what he is able to do in a film where it's just him, is mindblowing.

This is one of those films, unfortunately, that the main situation in the movie wasn't held secret.  I usually try to stay away from the internets when it comes to movies I still want to see, and thankfully that avoidance kept most of the really important stuff a secret. This is one of those movies that is best to go into blind, but if you hear something it still doesn't ruin it for you if you don't look too much into it.

The brilliance of this movie is the simplicity. It's a heavy story, lots of movie points and situations, but they never try too hard to explain it all to you. You are able to figure it out and understand everything in due time, it's never forced.

It's a great movie, and one I'll be watching again.

I loved the book when I was little, and I was interested when I heard it was changed into a film. Not totally excited, I don't think all books need to be made into a film, but whatever.

This is one of those cases when a book needed to be left alone. Sure, Ferdinand is adorable, but the reality behind the story, what happens to the bulls in the ring, is kind of fucked up. I don't believe a child should be dealing with such a controversial topic with adorable animals. Yeah, I know the end revolved around that, but still. I don't know if it handled it the way it should have been.

I don't know, maybe I'm going too deep into it, but I wasn't too big of a fan of this movie. The voice talent was great, at least. I want Tennant to do All the Voices!

I finally got a chance to see this movie, and I really did love it. 

It is a great mother-daughter movie, it's realistic and doesn't really hide the complexity that is in most relationships. I was told to watch it because I have such a great relationship with my mother, and even though I think I have a healthier one that in the film, there was a lot of things I could relate to.

My two favorite pieces of the film are when they are shopping. 1) they argue about being passive-aggressive and dragging her feet, then immediately change when they find the perfect dress, and 2) when she tries on a prom dress and the mother doesn't say the right thing. I have been there many times. I also saw the movie with my mom, and we both loved and smiled at those scenes. It was nice to actually see a close complicated relationship.

I'm excited to see what Gerwig continues to write-direct, she has a beautiful way of trapping reality and fiction in the storyline that leads to truth. And Saoirse Ronan is amazing!! I love everything that she does.

I really don't know why it took me so long to see this movie. I knew I was going to enjoy it, and I also knew I was going to relate to it. I guess it's better late than never.

This is one of those great examples where real culture is showcased but not in a stereotyped way. For me, that line is always so hard to walk, especially since what I know of the Latin culture (Mexico, primarily) is accurately portrayed most of the time. However, there is something beautiful when it's seamless and effortless. I could imagine visiting this house, that this was my family's house, and I knew the hardships.

Thankfully my mother never made me feel like that, but that doesn't mean I didn't get those looks from other family members. It's such an interesting culture when you're on the cusp of a new generation. I do believe this is a movie that is perfect for it's time, and it may not be able to be replicated/fully understood by this generation, but it is a great example of what was.

My review of this film will go more into detail about my thoughts on the film, but for now, I'll keep it simple.

The concept of belief is a powerfully personal situation, and I think this film did an interesting job opening that up and examining the smallest portion of what this means to people.

"Belief is all we have," and if we believe anything is possible.

Recently I've adopted a "limited information" block on the Marvel properties. I want to go into it knowing as little as possible. Most of them have great writers and plots that unfold in a unique way, and I don't want to deprive myself of that journey. Jessica Jones S2 is exactly like that. I saw one trailer, freaked out with the purple light, and couldn't wait until it was released. It was beyond what I was expecting and unfolded in an interesting way.

It's hard to pick a favorite Marvel hero/antihero, but for many reasons, I think Jessica is becoming my favorite. There are portions of personality that I wish were my own, and others that I battle along with her. This season really opened up her as a character, her hardships, and pain, and it presented her in an even more human way that I would have ever imagined. I'm really fascinated by the way Netflix lets these stories unfold, and I love that they can do what they wish.

I love the fact that this was developed by a woman, that S2 have all women directors, and that women characters show their diversity and complexity in a variety of ways. This is one of the best examples of what women can do, who we are, and what we can become; all the while never making it a point to hammer those details into the ground. It's just beautiful. 

I hope one day I can create a wonderful female character and world like JJ.

I've had a revelation, I'm now a firm believer that action movies, the ones that are built around action elements, should be directed by Stunt Coordinators/Choreographers. These talented people know all the workings of an action sequence, the way the body moves, the way the camera moves and can blend them together to make something magical.

Let's face it, there is something magical about 87 Eleven, period. This stunt team knows how to manipulate the body in such a way that it is equal realistic pain and beautiful visuals. It's hard to do, but they have mastered it. It's always a joy to watch these movies, not only as an action fan who loves great sequences but as a film fan who is going to look at them with a judging eye. Besides, they put together a great cast.

They know how to play to each of these actors strengths, and it's awesome to watch. (I have added a training session with 87 Eleven to my bucket list.) It's this attention to physicality and action that creates one magical sequence in their films. John Wick 1 &2 has it's scenes (for me; Keanu vs Adrianne and Keanu vs Common, respectfully), and in Atomic Blonde it was the building scene.

The use of the camera, the close-ups, which originally contradicted my appreciation for the 87 Eleven directors and their choice of pulling the camera back, but then I realized it worked because it was Charlize and it was the use of seamless cuts. This scene was not only brutal, but it was stunning.

I've always been an action nerd, but working with IDTV has revealed a new side of my appreciation for these films. I'm seeing them in a new light, understanding the people beyond the stunts, and loving these films in an even fuller way. The best action movies are the ones that have something hiding under the genre, and this one is just that.

When you have the main cast as powerful as this one, Morgan Freeman--Alan Arkin--Michael Caine, you know you are going to get a great film. I wouldn't necessarily say this is the best film that they've been in, but it's enjoyable.

They do touch on a lot of issues that the Senior population face, some that I deal with on a daily basis with my mother, so there are a lot of things that are relatable. Because of that, I believe this film is geared more towards the Baby Boomers, but that doesn't mean everyone else can't understand the troubles.

While it is fun to watch a humorous film about these issues, sometimes I felt that those issues were made too comical. These issues cause a lot of pain for a lot of people, and I don't know how I feel about it being made into a comedy. Then again, we can't heal and get through issues unless we find the humor in our situations. We have to find the light somewhere to guide us through the murk.

I also didn't know Zach Braff directed this. I like the fact that it wasn't made to be a "Zach Braff production." 

Bio movies can be hard to do, and there is so much information to put into a 2-hour film. At times, ELIS feels rushed, but because of the determination and passion Elis Regina had for her craft it worked.

I was not familiar with her music but was blown away. She had a beautiful voice, so much power in her tiny frame. Her story is tragic and yet so common, but you were following her heart.

I will be looking for her records, I want to relive her passion when I need to find my way.

Besides the connection to history, the film immediately draws in your attention. From the gently yet firm use of narration to explain the settling, this world is presented in brutal realism. A painting is shown before you, and regardless of your emotional state, you’re intrigued to find out more. The intrigue continues to come from the beautiful way the story and characters are introduced in the film. It’s not long that you forget you are watching a drama about war and sport, and all emotional attention falls to these prisoners and the struggles they endured to survive.

It’s this heart that adds an even more emotional tone to the historical content of the film. As all history deserves its time in lore, these stories can also inspire the next wave of generations. The comaraderie between these Boer soldiers, and what they were able to accomplish in their situation, is inspiring. The end may be bleak, but that does not mean the journey has to be.

There is something about the movies from New Zealand, they always have this energy of love and possibility swirling around them. Even with serious situations, there seems to be optimism, it's just fun to watch.

Not to mention their comic timing is on point!

This movie was entertaining and unexpected. The progression of the film was realistic, yet there was always this fantasy realm lurking off to the side. I don't know, I just love it. 

It's a remake of 1980 film called GOODBYE, PORK PIE, which was written by the writer-director's father, and that I love that trivia. While I haven't seen the original, I will make a point to try.

This film is beautifully heartbreaking. It tackles so many issues, making them resonate with the viewer without being in your face. It's just powerful.

Man, this film. It's starting to get a little weird (or just means I'm getting old) that all these news stories from my youth are starting to make it into films, and like with most of them, I had no idea about a chunk of the details.

I think they did a great job in making the story seem tragic, which it is, but also add a little bit of ridiculousness, cause it is. All the while stating very plainly that this was going to be told from the different perspective involved, even if the main one was Tonya's.

Beyond all of that, though, what they were able to accomplish with Margot Robbie and the cinematography (thank you Nicolas Karakatsains) was fascinating!

The way the tension builds is the other. The tension isn’t thrown at you, it’s not flashy or cause for spectacle. Thrillers sometimes tend to overdo the mood of the film, becoming heavy handed in the way they want the audience to feel. They Remain is the opposite, it allows for the unknown to cast a shadow around the film, creating an environment in which the audience decides what is real and what is occult.

There is a downside, though, to keeping the audience in relative darkness. With the lack of distinction on what the course of action the film is taking, there are moments of confusion in trying to figure out the placement of the plot. Vagueness is good in building tension, but when things start to take an eccentric turn, the audience has to catch up in understanding what exactly is going on. In those moments, you are taken out of the story as you try to put the puzzle back together.

I was kind of excited, well many more very interested about this movie. It was written as if it was a newer The Others, which is such a great film. Sadly, I was disappointed.

It had a lot of good points, but it has more points that I was not thrilled about. For someone who isn't so much of a horror/gothic tale, I need more to draw me in than what was in this film.

This was definitely a fun film with beautiful choreography.

Filmmaking is not an easy task. There are a variety of people that are needed, and if you’ve ever watched the end credits you understand that this list is not minute. Each and every one of these creative people are immensely talented and are needed to bring a film to life. One art that doesn’t get enough recognition is the art of Foley Sound, in which an individual brings sound to life on film using random objects and their craft of sound.

The film does a great job venturing into the history of Foley and a film trade, one that I was fascinated to learn about. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine a world without the modern requirements of film, when in reality the beginning of the film industry was not really that long ago in our overall history. The film is full of examples of Foley in classic films, pulling the curtain away to reveal the tricks that were used in beloved films.

The most amazing thing about this show is the format. It's a deep and complicated story, but each episode is only 20 minutes.

You think the episodes are just filler in between the difficult moments of their situation, but there is so much more than that. Each and everything in these episodes is important to the story and or the characters. I was impressed.

The story moved, and it was logical, even if it was a bad situation after another. You never felt like it was just drama after drama, but you understand what they were going through and how they got into this situation.

It's dark, don't get me wrong, but if you allow yourself to look beyond that, it's so much more.

Beautiful, Powerful, Entertaining....fucking amazing.

Man, this show. I was told very little by people and knew even less from the media, and I'm happy I went into it like that. There are so many layers to this saga, that the audience really needs to experience it on their own.

I loved how diverse the casting was, how amazing each of them was in their own way, making their characters incredibly important for the entire series.

It's also one that needs to be watched multiple times. Not only will you notice and experience something new, but it's just entertaining to watch.

I love this show so much! 

I think this season is better than last, but that might be because we saw Brianna more. (She's my spirit animal.)

It also dealt with issues that I appreciated. I have parents that are older, and some of the things they touched on are things I worry and think about all the time. Although, I don't think my mom would hit a cop car while driving a scooter drunk, even if it would be hilarious.

These aren't things the kids like to deal with, and are even scarier for the parents who are going through it. The beauty about this show is to show aging gracefully, and with spunk. If these ladies can sell vibrates at 70, why can't my mom do it too! (Well, in my mom's world it's vintage and nerd inspired sewing merchandise.)

I enjoyed the first one, and the cast is great with Harrelson, Ruffalo, and Caplan, and even Radcliff....but the film was just blah.

I feel like it tried too hard to recapture the glory and awe of the first one. The tricks had to be bigger, yes, but in doing so the logic and believability went out the window.

You went along with it more for the fact that it was presented and easier to digest than really being interested in how the characters set everything up.

Even with just following I felt lost, though. It was too big of a concept and not enough heart to make me care about this installment. I'm not looking forward to a 3, I don't even think there should be one!

Oh, my goodness. 

I love these movies, they are ridiculous, and they know it. It's adrenaline shot directly into your veins. It got so much better when The Rock joined, but still, I love them.

However, this film.....
This was the biggest ego trip I have ever seen in this franchise, and that's saying a lot. I'm pretty sure if you've seen the movie you know who I'm talking about.

I do feel it should have ended with  7, RIP Paul Walker, but it was not in the cards. This whole movie felt like it was trying to grasp at something that wasn't there. Maybe it was because a big piece of the heart was missing, or it was trying to change it to be something it's not.

I'm also tired of some of the same old tricks with the crew. We get the roles they play, but come on, development is needed.

I will say this, though, When the Rock--Statham movie comes out, you better believe I will be in the theater for that one.

I would never have watched this movie if it wasn't for my mom and bestie. They ended up watching it cause nothing else was on, but loved it. So, I decided to give it a try and watch it.

The best part of watching this movie was watching it with my mom. She kept laughing, commenting on how much she loved it, and would even laugh before the joke/scene happened. For once, the tables were turned.  There has been more than one occasion that I have showed my mom a movie I love and waited for her to love just as much as I do. It was nice to watch a film in which she was the one showing me her humor.

In general, though, it was cute. Andy Samberg is always hilarious, and the Wolves are amazing. I wasn't aware of Stephen Kramer Glickman, but he was my favorite as Pigeon Toady.

Well, this was certainly a PTA-DDL film. I think even after 12 plus hours I'm still processing the film.

It was beautiful. Yes, the film was presented in the world of gown making, but the elegance goes beyond the fabric and form of the dress creations. The way the camera was able to guide like fabric in a breezy through the scenes was breathtaking. The way the camera slowly zoomed into the frame, allowing the audience to become more and more intimate with our hosts as we partake in their lives.

There was something very intimate with this film, not only through the delicate camera movements.  One might think that taking clothes off is seductive, but watching someone dress, or be dressed by someone, is one of the most carnal experiences one can share with someone. Clothes do not just sit on the body, especially during this time. It clings to every curve and drapes the frame, creating an image that is unlike the one next to it. Clothes hide secrets in its fabric, concealing flaws and desires.

Intimacy, relationships, and independence bleed throughout. It's about how things can be co-dependent and independent at the same time, and the passion that bridges those two together.

Then again, I'm still processing the many layers of this film. There is something to say about great collaborations, and the PTA-DDL one is brilliant.

I love the first one and I didn't know if there needed to be a sequel.

Z2 was a ridiculous film, more than I have seen in a very long time. However, it's exactly what it should have been. There is no way that a sequel to Zoolander is supposed to make sense. 

It's fun, doesn't make any sense, ridiculous, and really entertaining.

Sometimes when you aren't feeling good you need to watch movies that are feel good.

I mean, sure, it's a bit over dramatic and I kept thinking about the 70s version of this movie called Boy in the Plastic Bubble but it was an entertaining movie. It is a bit frustrating, I had to admit, that there are always really great teenage guys in these movies. I knew like 2 of them in high school that could be cast in one of these movies/books. Then again, I guess that's what makes them escapes.

Trivia Point: I think the end bookstore was shot in one that I've been to in Vancouver. There's a really great breakfast place around the corner, too

I couldn't pass up another opportunity to watch the icon at work, especially when it's with Spencer Tracy. I haven't ever seen them together in a movie (I know, horrible film buff) so I thought it was about time.

Knowing that they had to hide their relationship for the majority of their career and lives, the lack of unnatural chemistry was amazing. Sure, they worked amazingly well together, and they played off each other with ease, but none of that would have ever had pointed to an affair. That sounds weird to bring that up in a review of a film, but considering that the affair is cemented into film history, it's interesting it wasn't obvious, even when looking for it.

Once again, Hepburn's life immitates life. I loved the story, I loved how she was so adamient about equality, such a film ahead of it's time. Or, was it perfect for it's time and we've ebbed and flowed since them. Throughout the trail, Amanda Bonner brought up all great examples of why Doris Attinger wasn't receiving a fair trail. I wonder if those points would be able to be used in court today?

I really enjoyed this film, and once again the fact that I knew nother but Spencer and Hepburn was the best thing I could have done. 

Starting 2018 with a classic film, and a film with the icon Katherine Hepburn. I admire her so much and believe she was before her time. She was a strong female, in film and in life, when it was not customary for them to be. She was both independent and feminine, in a way that I strive for daily. It was an honor to start my quest with her film, and I hope I can continue her teachings throughout the year.

Besides knowing the cast, I didn't know much anything else about this film. I am beginning to prefer watching movies like that, it leaves the anticipation, for better or worst, outside of the entertainment. It took a bit to get the path that the movie was going down, but once in I was all in.

The chemistry between Hepburn, Grant, and Stewart was fascinating. They were all great at doing what they did and allowed the others to shine in their own way too, true partnerships. They never seemed to fight for the spotlight, which makes each of them the center of equal attention. Except for Virginia Weldler, that is, she was a sassy little sister that worked her way into all of our hearts.

I don't think the story was predictable, even if I did want her to end up with Grant, but I surprised by the reason for the end of her engagement. Then again, it's a Katherine Hepburn film, she will always be a strong independent woman.
